New realistic novels have aroused concern among numerous researchers since the mid-1980s. There have initiated many studies and disputes on such issues as its naming, concept limits, analysis and appraisal of its esthetic characteristics and so on. It is rather rare in literature world to see such multitudinous reviews, divergent opinions, long duration, wide coverage and deep influence. Why can new realistic novels initiate so many contentious articles? What existence is it in the history of literature? Based on the predecessors' studies and in the social and literary context this thesis makes a thorough analysis on the ideological trend, theory construction and ways of existence in the history, trying to have a comparatively deep and overall command of this literary phenomenon, in which new realistic novels have triggered such a heat discussion.This thesis is divided into five sections. Introduction in the first section explains the origin, purpose and exploratory idea of this thesis. In the second section, it analyzes the creation situation of new realistic novels. During the social transitional period, in response to times' requirements on literature, writers made adjustments on literary creation on the foundation of absorbing and borrowing a variety of the domestic and foreign literary factors and modes of thought. In the third section, by combing the theory contention, analyzing and criticizing of the relevant comments, the thesis makes an analysis on the new realities in the theoretical perspective. In the fourth section, by comparing new realistic novels with traditional realism on such three notions as "reality", "people" and "writer", it inspects the creation thought of new realistic novels, exploring the theoretical basis on which it initiates contends and studies of new realistic novels. It is true that new realistic novels often over correct when rebelling against the realism creation principles, which produced quantities of unconquerable defects and thus brought critics' criticism.
