The Treatise Of Zong Baihua's "Kongling" Aesthetics Thought

Zong Baihua is an outstanding aesthetician in the history of Chinese aesthetics of the 20^th century as well as the forerunner and pioneer of China's modern aesthetics. In recent years, the treatises of researching on Zong Baihua's aesthetics thought are very rich, including systematic exposition of Zong Baihua's aesthetics thought and specific exposition on a particular topic of Zong Baihua's aesthetics thought. The author found that there are many treatises which are not directly on the theory of "kongling" but, in fact, imply the "kongling" aesthetics thought. The paper comprehends them as a breakthrough point to make an attempt to analyse and research the "kongling" aesthetics thought implied in the previous discourses, in order to give a systematic explanation of Zong Baihua's aesthetics thought taking "kong ling" as the core.This paper is divided into four chapters :Chapter one, expounds the philosophy foundation of "kongling" aesthetics thought. "kongling" aesthetics thought can be traced back to the philosophy ontology of "noting" which belonged to Laozi, Zhuangzi and Wei-chin Dynasty's metaphysics, the Zen thought, the Book of Changes' thought : "The reaction between one Yin and one Yang is called Tao" and the traditional western philosophy.Chapter two, expounds the construction of "kongling" category to Zong Baihua's aesthetics thought. This chapter is divided into three parts. The first part discusses the construction between "kongling" and Artistic Conception, which is reflected on four aspects, such as, rhythmical and musical Artistic Conception, the characteristics of Artistic Conception structure and the combination of xu and shi. The first part discusses the construction between "kongling" and personality theory, considering the unity of kongling and chongshi represent the ideal personality pursued by Zong Baihua, it constitutes two aspects of artistic spirit. The third part discusses the relationship between Artistic Conception and personality. They are mapping and cultivating to each other, namely, Artistic Conception maps personality and personality cultivates Artistic Conception.Chapter three, expounds "kong ling" aesthetics thought's embodiment on all categories of art. Music, dance, drama, architecture, calligraphy, poetry are permeated with the "kong ling" aesthetics thought.Chapter four, expounds the artistical life under " kong ling" aesthetics thought's evocation. The chapter represents it from two aspects, for example, the sympathy and love toward life, the artistic and poetic way of life.Epilogue, expounds "kongling" aesthetics thought's enlightenment to contemporary aesthetics. "kongling" aesthetics thought has great enlightenment to contemporary Aesthetics in many aspects, such as, constructing ideal personality, dealing with the relationship between man and nature, improving art's charm and cultivating the spirit of art.
