The Study On Function Of "Verb-object Verbs" Structure

The Verb-object verbs are very special in the field of verbs. Compared with the general verbs, there are some functional differences. The biggest difference is that the general verbs are always with objects while the Verb-object verbs are seldom with objects. As we all know, language is developing and changing. The Verb-object verbs with objects have started showing and become more popular over decades, which is admitted by linguistics.We will express the Verb-object verbs with objects of the form as "VO+O₁". For examples, "land shanghai, do researches, swear to quit smoking" etc. Based on former researches by other scholars, the author puts forward some personal perceptions.Chapter one is about the research results of some linguists and the issues that we will discuss. Chapter two is about the classification of VO and its standard is according to the situation of the expansion of VO verb and whether it can be followed by objects. Chapter three is about the reason why some VO could be followed by objects and some rules of language materials through finding the endopathic reasons of VO. We will discuss the relationship between VO and VO followed by objects and then the relationship will be confirmed by the discrete quality of VO. How the elements of VO impact the rules of VO verbs with objects and using examples to approve the situation. The relationship between VO and object will be also discussed to explain the verbal elements impaction of the situation of VO with objects or not and the objects' property.Finally, this thesis is about to explain the reason why VO could be followed by objects which have been observed through synchronic and diachronic analysis. The diachronic ones includes the lexicalzation of the process of monosyllabic old Chinese to disyllabic modern Chinese and the impaction of English in the area of using English and Chinese together overseas. The synchronic ones include the analogy of VO with objects and consummation of verbs.All examples are mainly from Peking University Chinese corpora and some news from internet and all of them are discussed by analyzing, statistic and delineating.
