With the growth of the concern about international communication all over the world, researches and investigations of students'ICC (intercultural communicative competence) have become quite necessary and important. Based on systematical discussions full of patience, this thesis has inquired into the current actuality of ICC of Chinese non-English majors in vocational colleges and complemented the research on the ICC of Chinese students with new empirical data, which certainly has a practical significance. This is the commitment of this thesis.120 Chinese non-English majors from different departments of three vocational colleges participated in the investigation. Based on Spitzberg's three components of ICC, a questionnaire was employed as an instrument of the investigation to explore the overall level of vocational college students'ICC. The collected data were then analyzed with the help of the Microsoft Office Excel. The results are displayed as follows: firstly, vocational college students have a comparatively high level of motivation to communicate with others effectively and appropriately. However, the author found something that hinders students'communicative motivation—anxiety; secondly, although we have kept stressing the importance of culture learning, students still behaved worst in this aspect; thirdly, students behaved normally in intercultural communicative skills except their language proficiency. Overall, the ICC of Chinese non-English majors in vocational colleges has remained at a rather low level. In view of students'comparatively worst performance in cultural knowledge, self-made questionnaire were designed for students'attitude towards culture learning and students'main sources of acquiring cultural knowledge. Combining the questionnaire on teachers'attitude towards culture teaching and teachers'main methods of teaching culture, this thesis has revealed various problems which the students encountered in culture learning. Then, effective solutions to increasing students'cultural knowledge have been proposed. In addition, this thesis analyzes students'weaknesses in communicative skills and communicative motivation, and gives corresponding suggestions. All the findings of the investigation will have an illuminative function in developing students'ICC consolidating culture teaching, upgrading students'communicative skills.
