According to the “Basic Requirements for English Teaching in Higher Vocational Education(Trial)” issued by the Ministry of Education in 2000,the ultimate goal of English teaching in higher vocational colleges is to cultivate the students' intercultural communicative competence.The research questions currently studied in this paper: 1)what' re the present situations of intercultural knowledge,intercultural skills,intercultural attitude and intercultural awareness of Tibetan students in inland vocational colleges? 2)What factors influence the intercultural communicative competence of Tibetan students in inland vocational college?3)How can the intercultural communicative competence of Tibetan students in inland vocational college be improved?Based on the intercultural communicative competence of the four-dimensional model of Byram(1997),this thesis uses the questionnaires to investigate the present situations of English intercultural communicative competence of the students in 4 classes(158 students)from the Hunan Normal Vocational College for Nationalities in 2016 and 2017.Then the author conducts a British and American cultural knowledge test,interviews with some teachers and some students.The data were correlated with SPSS22.0 software by statistical analysis of the mean.Through the analysis of this survey,the following conclusions are drawn:1.The intercultural communicative awareness and intercultural communicative skills of Tibetan students inland are relatively good;they have a good understanding of China's history,lifestyle,values,customs,etc.,but there is not enough knowledge about British and American culture;intercultural communication attitude is not very active.Learning attitude has a great relationship with the students' intercultural communicative competence.The overall intercultural communicative competence of Tibetan students in inland vocational college is still low.2.Teacher interview shows: Due to the teachers' professional quality,single and old teaching methods,and the teachers' poor intercultural communicative knowledge,the students' interest in learning is not strong;the students lack a variety of cultural views.The students are not willing to learn British and American culture.The students' intercultural communicative attitude seriously affects the students' intercultural communicative knowledge learning.The group student interview shows: Because the college does not have a special intercultural communication course,the depth of introduction of intercultural communicative knowledge by the teachers is not enough.Therefore the students have insufficient contact with intercultural communicative knowledge and are not motivated.Most Tibetan students thinkthat cultural learning affects their English learning.So a large number of students lack the enthusiasm and initiative of intercultural knowledge learning.This leads to a weaker intercultural communicative awareness among the students.Also,cultural teaching basically adopts the traditional mode of teachers' lectures and students' listening.The students lack cultural experience.Because the students lack real intercultural communication environment training,intercultural communication skills can't be improved.3.Based on the present situation of English intercultural communicative competence of Tibetan students in Inland vocational college,the corresponding teaching strategies are proposed.1)Conduct cross practice of intercultural communicative activities to enhance the students' intercultural communicative strategies;2)Strengthen British and American cultural learning to consolidate intercultural communicative knowledge;3)Create an intercultural communicative atmosphere and cultivate the students' intercultural communicative awareness;4)Cultivating multicultural outlook to regulate the students' intercultural attitude.This study provides new empirical data support for the study of intercultural communicative competence in Chinese college English teaching and provides corresponding suggestions on how to improve the intercultural communicative competence of Tibetan students in inland vocational colleges.Cultural teaching in college English teaching has certain inspiration and reference role.
