Three Theories About Traditional Character

At the 50s in 20th century,a reform of Chinese characters was carried out,and since then the simplified characters have been taken as the standard characters and become the carrier of Chinese language and culture. Traditional characters are only used at special occasions and their function of recording and spreading Chinese language and culture has been taken place.But traditional characters still plays an indisapensible part in some fields,for example,ancient books filing, calligraphy, teaching,research, intercommunication between mainland and Taiwan and so on. In recent years some debates about simplified and traditional characters have been mentioned again,such as the renewing of traditional characters,being able to write simplified characters with knowing about traditional characters,the overture of putting traditional characters into primary and middle school curriculum,the unifying of Chinese,Japanese and Korean characters,besides,the applying for heritage for Chinese characters origanated by Taiwan people and supported by hign ranks and so on.These disputes attract the attention of academic circle and even the political world,and the problems arose make us think profoundly.The first chapter looks back on the character simplifying work since the foundation of New China an offers a statement of the advantages and points out the exsiting problems in the communication of human and with computer,the misuse of traditional characters,mistakes in writing characters,making up simplified characters,mistakes in the diversion of traditional and simplified characters and so on.The second chapter is mainly about the restore of traditional characters.Nowadays simplified characters are widely used and the restore of traditional characters is impossible and unnecessary.But as the charcters are simplified with the substitution of homophony and similar pronunciation,so two traditional characters share one simplified character,which brings a lot of mistakes when it comes to the diversion of asymmetric traditional and simplified characters so a lot of problems appear so some adjustment needs to be made. From the propective of curatural inheritance,the slogan of "being able to write simplified characters with knowing traditional characters",it doesn't work in fact. "knowing traditional characters"means the restore of publishing in traditional characters, which not only brings great loss of human resourse,material resourse,finance,but also the chaos of society,this is what the third chapter is about. The fourth chapter is mainly about the applying for heritage for Chinese characters which draws the attention of Taiwan government and folk and some mainlanders.Refering to the standard of evalution of UNESCO,the analysis of the value of Chinese characters and the present situation,together with factors like politic and national self-esteem,Chinese characters should be applied for international immaterial culture heritage.
