The difference in font between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait is the situation that foreign students learning Chinese will face when learning Chinese characters,while the current situation of teaching Chinese as a foreign language between the two sides is generally based on their own standardized font.However,the author found that some students studying Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are not unfamiliar with the font on the other side,and even have learners who have learning needs for another font.Therefore,in order to investigate the various situations reflected in the font by Chinese learners on both sides of the Taiwan Strait,this study analyzes the use of Traditional and Simplified Chinese Characters,learning purposes and reasons,understanding of Chinese Characters,and learning needs of Chinese learners.The subjects were students from the Beginner class?Intermediate class?Advanced class,Chinese and non-Chinese,Sinosphere and non-Sinosphere,who studied Chinese in Institute for international students Nanjing University in the Mainland and Taiwan Universities and knew that there were Traditional Chinese Characters and Simplified Chinese Characters in Chinese Characters.The questionnaire was collected by SPSS 22.0(statistical product and service solution software version 22.0)for statistical analysis.This paper consists of the following four parts:the first part is a survey of 208 Chinese learners' use of Traditional and Simplified Chinese Characters.The results show that Chinese learners on both sides of the Taiwan Strait mainly use local standard fonts,but the overall use of local standard fonts by Mainland students is higher than that of Taiwan students.In the second part,the purpose and reason of studying Traditional Chinese Characters of Chinese learners on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are investigated.In the aspect of investigating Traditional Chinese Characters of Mainland,only 42 Chinese learners who have learned Traditional Chinese Characters are analyzed;in the aspect of investigating Simplified Chinese Character users from Taiwan,41 Chinese learners who have learned Simplified Chinese Characters are analyzed.The results show that the average value of Traditional Chinese Characters learning factors of Chinese learners in the Mainland is the highest "in order to learn more about Chinese culture",and the highest in Simplified Chinese Characters "in order to study,work and live in the Mainland".In the aspect of Traditional Chinese Characters,the highest score is "for study,work and live in Taiwan";in the aspect of learning factors of Simplified Chinese Characters,the highest score is "because Simplified Chinese Characters are used for teaching in Chinese class"In the third part,208 Chinese learners were investigated about the cognition of Traditional Chinese Characters.The results showed that the score of "Traditional Chinese Characters are more beautiful than Simplified Chinese Characters" was the highest in the overall cognition.However,as far as the average value is concerned,the cognitive performance of Taiwan is higher than that of the the Mainland.In the fourth part,the author analyzes the needs of 208 Chinese learners in Traditional and Simplified Chinese Characters.The results show that there is a significant difference in the classroom font needs between the Chinese learners who have learned Traditional Chinese Characters and those who have not learned Traditional Chinese Characters,while there is no significant difference in the classroom needs between the Chinese learners who have learned Simplified Chinese Characters and those who have only learned Traditional Chinese Characters in Taiwan.On the whole,in terms of learning needs of two fonts,the proportion of Chinese learners in Taiwan is higher than that in the Mainland.
