Syntactic, Semantic And Pragmatic Study On Object-oriented Adverbial Adjectives

This thesis analyze a relatively special linguistic phenomenon—Object-oriented Adverbial Adjectives, from the view of syntax, semantics and pragmatics. Besides the introduction and conclusion, this thesis is comprised of four chapters.Chapter One defined the scope and object of the study, and established the criteria for the study. In this chapter, the thesis focused on the syntactic characteristics of the object-oriented adverbial adjectives and that of the other parts in the sentence.Chapter Two discuss the semanctic characteristics of"manufactural","perceptural"and"emergentive"adjectives in the adverbial place, which is based on the categorization of object-oriented adverbial adjectives. There is also an analysis of the restriction on object-oriented adverbial adjectives from the"syntactic position meaning"and"constructional meaning", as well as its counter-restriction to the other parts of the sentence.Chapter Three mainly adopts the perspective of pragmatic study, outline the role of object-oriented adverbial adjectives in the snetence as a focal point. On a higher level discussion, in this chapter there established a hierachical serial of anticipation degree after the analysis of the different extent of anticipation express by adverbial adjectives, attributive adjectives and complementary adjectives. Afterwards, the thesis described the pragmatic characteristics of"perceptural"and"emergentive"object-oriented adverbial adjectives in the adverbial sentences.Chapter Four lay its emphasize on the prerequisite for"manufactural","perceptural"and"emergentive"adjectives'movement from attributive place to adverbial place. Rather, this analysis is followed by the explenation on the momentum of the movement. From the author's point of view, the momentum consists of the following factors:"The subjunctivity of language","The principle of temporal sequence","The iconity of distence", as well as the"The performance of empathy".
