There are many double syllable adjectives in Modern Chinese, but they used as adverbial shows big differences.Currently the research on double syllable adjectives using as adverbial modifiers are few. This paper takes double syllable adjectives as research target, which come from “Chinese Adjectives usage Dictionary”. We try to give intensive description of the double syllable adjectives on the basis of previous research, and explain the reasons why they used as adverbial shows big differences, so that we can get a better understanding of continuum in double syllable adjectives.Chapter one is introduction. It introduced the scope, purpose and significance of the topic. It summarized the previous research results and pointed out problems to be solved.Finally, it introduced the method and theory as well as the source of corpus.Chapter two is syntactic representations on adverbial adaptability of Chinese double syllable adjectives. We give intensive description of the double syllable adjectives according to double syllable adjectives can use as adverbial or not.Chapter three is semantic foundation on adverbial adaptability of Chinese double syllable adjectives. There are three kinds of semantic patterns of double syllable adjectives: behavior description, people description, objects description. And double syllable adjectives in adverbial are provided with dynamism, temporary, subjectivity.Chapter four is rhythm features on adverbial adaptability of Chinese double syllable adjectives. We pointed out that most double syllable adjectives confined to combine with disyllabic verbs, a small number of double syllable adjectives can combine with monosyllabic verbs and this combination has been cured.Chapter five is expansion transformation on adverbial adaptability of Chinese double syllable adjectives. Some double syllable adjectives cannot put in adverbial position, but they can transform into the adjectives reduplication or NA subject-predicate structures, so that they can use as adverbial.Chapter six is conclusion. It summarized the main perspectives of this paper and illustrate the questions need to be researched furthermore.
