The Study Of C.W. Mateer "A Course Of Mandarin Lessons Based On Idiom"

In this paper, study of "A Course of Mandarin Lessons based on Idiom" from the linguistic point of view, combining both synchronic and diachronic plane. From the aspects of pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, etc., study comprehensively on the North American Presbyterian missionaries Mateer and his textbook for the first time. Through descripting and analysising 200 lessons of this textbook, reveal characteristic and value of Mateer and his book on the Chinese pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar teaching and textbooks compiling.Papers include five chapters:Firstly is introduction, explain the significance of topics, research methods and theoretical profiles, introduction Mateer's life and teaching activities and display basic elements of his textbook.Secondly is pronunciation study, describe and analysis the pronunciation systems of Mateer and dicuss the change's characteristicThirdly is vocabulary study, through comparing a large number of South and North words, the use of idioms and religious terms, analysis of different geographical features of Mandarin words, pointed out that Northern Mandarin has already dominant.Forthly is grammar study, use today's grammatical theory, analysis the usage"X不X","没(没有)","了","连"structures.Fifthly is basic evaluation, fonus on achievements and contributions of Mateer and his textbook in Mandarin education and textbooks compiling.
