Notes on Guoyu which contains more than 5,600 notes is the representative work of Weizhao of Three Kingdoms.In the book,Weizhao explained the language of Gulyu by the language of his time.These notes provide a rich source of materials for the study of the development of language from Qin Dynasty to Three Kingdoms.And they are high-quality corpus for the research on some peculiarities of the language of Three Kingdoms.The dissertation comprehensively investigates all these notes and makes a specific study on vocabulary and grammar.Through the study, we hope to form a general picture of the language of the Three Kingdoms and add a link of the period of Three Kingdoms for the chain of the development of Chinese language history.The dissertation consists of four parts.In order to provide a historical background,the first chapter introduces a short biography of Weizhao and his major achievements.In the second chapter,we investigate all vocabulary in the Notes on Guoyu to expatiate upon the development of middle Chinese vocabulary from the perspective of the monosyllabic words' turning into disyllabic and polyllabic ones.The third chapter discusses the grammatical development of language from early ancient times to Three Kingdoms.In the last part,we discuss the great practical significance of Notes on Guoyu on the compiling of dictionaries.In the dissertation,we try to make our efforts in the following aspects:1.Notes on Guoyu is an important corpus on the study of the history of middle Chinese.But the former research on it is very weak.In the dissertation,we systematically make monographic studies on vocabulary and grammar for the first time,hoping to provide the reference for the study on the history of vocabulary and grammar.2.For its appropriate and terse explaintations to Guoyu,Notes on Guoyu is the the most important tool on the study on Guoyu,and it is one of milestones in the exegetics.In this work,Weizhao presented a paradigm for later exegetics.The dissertation reveals Weizhao' s contributions to theoretical building of exegetics.3.There are more than 2,600 monosyllabic words and 6,000 disyllabic and polyllabic words in Notes on Guoyu which provides important material for the research on the vocabulary.The dissertation explores 8,700 entries to makes a base for compling appropriative dictionary.At the same time,according to the collation of the entries,the dissertation argues the practical significance of Notes on Guoyu to compling Hanyu Da Cidian, and provides reference for the futhur revision of the great dictionary.4.Though Notes on Guoyu is a exegetical work,there are lots of explanations of grammar.Traditionally,it is conceived that there are no grammatical ideas in the ancient Chinese.In fact,it is a misunderstanding of theoretical forms of Chinese grammar.In the dissertation,we discuss many ways which Weizhao used to link up the grammatical connection of ancient and modern.It can prove that there are plenty of grammatical analysis in the expiations of concrete words and sentences in ancient Chinese.
