The thesis first introduces the meta-functional theory of systematic functional linguistics, and then discusses the relationship between meta-function and context within the theoretical framework of meta-function and both linguistic and pragmatic features of context. Based on the survey of relevant studies concerning meta-functions and context, the thesis focuses on the research of context and the relationship between context and listening ability, oral explanation and culture.With the study of vocational school students as the research object, the thesis chose one controlled class and one contrast class to analyze the English teaching effects and collect data. Relying on the relevant theory of language communication, the thesis emphasizes the importance of developing communicative competence in vocational school students and discusses the effects of establishing different contexts in English learning.Questionnaires, interviews and class investigation are used as research methods to show the feasibility of this research. The effectiveness and pragmatism are examined objectively and realistically.There are many topics in English teaching in vocational schools. The purpose of this thesis is to find out a practical method for the vocational school teachers to help the students to raise their English level. It is operational and practical. At the same time, it is also an important method to train the students to develop their English communicative competence.Finally, the thesis tries to prove the relationship between context and communicative competence on the basis of the experiment.The thesis consists of seven chapters: Chapter 1 Forward; Chapter 2 Literature Review; Charter 3 Context; Chapter 4 Communicative Competence; Chapter 5 Objective and Program to Develop English Communicative Competence; Chapter 6 Research of Practical Examples; Chapter 7 Conclusion.
