This is a study on the teaching methods for Korean through the use of Korean drama which currently has increased it influence abroad through the mass media. Some of the strong points of this method can be found in the conversations that take place in the Korean dramas. The conversations are similar to those that take place in actual life and therefore draw the interest of the learner and are useful material for seeing and hearing Korean. Another strong point of this method is that it can convey not only the Korean language but also the Korean culture present in daily life through the application of a comprehensive course of study that deals with a real-life situation. This study attempts to find a method of teaching Korean through Korean dramas not through the conventional means of the TV but through the use of the Internet.In the first chapter the writer examined the scope of influence of the Korean language outside of Korea and emphasizes the need for research on the teaching methods for Korean through Korean drama.In the second chapter the writer their strengths and weaknesses. While presenting an educational method that uses drama, the writer suggests that research should be conducted to supplement the shortcomings.In the third chapter the writer offers in detail the teaching method that makes use of Korean drama. The writer will first present a standard to be used in the selection of Korean drama. The proposal of this teaching method that made use of or reference to Korean drama is centered on the use of various medium, and analyzed, in order from Japanese, English and Korean, teaching materials that made use of or reference to Korean drama and identified also includes the method, grammar and culture for a comprehensive course of study. Through the proposal of such teaching methods the writer attempts to supplement the shortcomings of the teaching materials that makes use of drama as analyzed in chapter two.In chapter four, the writer has constructed lesson plans that can be incorporated in the classroom that reflects the teaching methods mentioned above. The writer will present the method for teaching Korean using the selected drama based on the standard that was introduced.In chapter five, the writer will offer suggestions for teaching methods that utilize the mass media. The writer still acknowledges that these suggestions are not complete and readily points out the lack ofprogress in studies on the method for teaching Korean through the useof Korean dramas. The writer presents the issues and tasks that need to be addressed and offer a number of suggestions to support the study of the Korean language. The writer concludes this study by underscoring the need for further studies on the teaching method of Korean through the use of Korean drama.
