The Study Of The System Of Wang Guowei's State Theory

The state theory is the core content of Wang Guowei's poetic theory and its final states of Formation had experienced historical process which is from Artistic conception to the state theory and then to the expanded theory of state and logical process that includes the state theory's content areas and its sub-system, from which we can think that it has the Awareness of System. In the former case, firstly,Wang Guowei used the traditional conception of literature (which was named "Artistic conception") to discusses the phenomenon of literature in the Preface A and B of the "human word" and believed that the Artistic conception involved means and state, which was characterized by the pursuit of the overtones of Chinese literature:the beauty of connotation; Secondly, in his "Hunan poetry pose" he used the state theory instead of the Artistic conception to discuss the emotional literature and distinguished which were the Roots and which were the Branches or leaves between the two, then he thought that the real works of literature must can describe the writer's feelings and sceneries out and only by this way the beauty of connotation of lyric literature can be pursued; Finally, in his "History of the Song and Yuan Drama" he used the "Artistic conception" again to discuss the narrative literature and its contents were very different from it was used in the Preface A and B of the "human word", so it should be named the expanded theory of state because it concluded both lyric and narrative literature compared to the former state theory which only involved the lyric literature. Those processes showed us the continuous improvement of the state theory, from which we can clearly see that this kind of theory had displayed its self-conscious ware of system. In the latter case, the basic category of state theory (Feelings——"a sentiment is refreshing", Scenery——"scenery in the eyes and ears" and Story——"things were told as they uttered though the mouth") had included the main contents of literary expression and its methods and results, this is another performance of consciousness system. Again, Wang Guowei had built up several sub-concepts about the theory of state which made its performance of self-conscious ware of system more clear:The state of I am in or not displayed the conditions that the literature described the writers'feelings, the theory of creating or describing environmental scenery pointed out the different ways of creating or writing the works of literature and its different contents, the theory of large or small state discussed the size and depth of the writer's feelings according to his or her literary works, and the theory of clear or not talked about the way through which created the literary works and made the reader have a clear and deep sympathy of the writer's feelings and conditions and the beauty of connotation of reading lyric or narrative literature. By the rich contents of the theory state and its sub-category we could know that the theory of state was the result of which he wanted to study the traditional poetry theory through the systematic awareness, which was influenced by the western thoughts and theories. Though there were some faults but the existence of systematic awareness and its system cannot be denied.
