Chiang Kai-shek built the Nanking National Government in April,1927. The rapid success of the first expedition let Chiang Kai-shek who acted as a commander in chief of the National Revolutionary Army fast became a hot figure. Invaders tried to contact with him by all means, especially when he started the 4·12 coup detat and broke with Soviet Union and Chinese Communist Party openly let them got an prelimilary understanding of the man whom they regarded as a representative of moderate. At the same time, it also provided powers an opportunity to adjust its China policy, United Kingdom, Japan and other powers started to adjust their China policy gradually. To the major interests and influence in China——the United States, naturally, can not stay out. With Chiang Kai-shek's rapid establishment of the new regime in Nanking, the United States got a prelimilary understanding of Chiang himself, as well as the new government under the leadership of him. Similarly, in order to consolidate political power, the Nanking National Government adopted a "joint US anti--Japanese and Soviet suppression" foreign policy, this policy was also its foreign policy after the enactment of a long-term basis. With the gradual increase in contacts between the two, contradictions and even conflict couldn't be avoided, "Nanking Massacre" was a typical example, the two sides'dispute over the case had been resolved after a long dispute and consultation. Nanking National Government's attempt to win international diplomatic recognition also made an effort to take the lead to obtain U.S. support, "Nanking Massacre" no doubt cleared the way for the two sides'establishing diplomatic relations in the future. In order to complete the ultimate reunification of the country, the second expedition which was started by Chiang Kai-shek had been armed intervention, for it seriously touched the interests of Japan. In negotiations with Japan, in addition to its own struggle, Chiang would drag the United States into the game inevitably. Chiang Kai-shek did not forget the U.S. influence even when he and his Northeast Army broke out conflict with the Soviet Union over the Zhongdong railway issue. In addition, Chiang Kai-shek who was holding a "revolutionary diplomacy" banner had to rely on the support and cooperation of the United States in the fight for tariff autonomy and the abolition of the unequal treaties, while the U.S. was indeed played a crucial role in the process.
