The Research On Separable Word

In modern Chinese, many unidentified issues exist among language units like morpheme, word, and phrase. And the current theories of Chinese and the existing Chinese have enjoyed the irreconcilable facts. The product of this contradiction is the separable words. Within the framework of the "word oriented" theory, the research on separable words has not achieved satisfactory results. But it could be a feasible way to solve the problem to re-analyze separable words within the framework of the "character based" theory.Chinese character is not only writing unit, but also linguistic unit. It, as the basic as well as the smallest structural unit of Chinese, has three features of exist, discreteness and the psychological reality in language community groups. Bigger language unit constituted by characters is "word group." In modern Chinese, two-character word group is replacing the one-character as the main structure. The two-character word group meets both the needs of Chinese expression and characters'rhythm. According to the nature of the structure of the two-character word group, they can be divided into "temporary two-character word group" and "fixed two-character word group" categories based on meanings. The form within the "fixed two-character word group" is not entirely consistent. It can be classified as "immovable two-character word group" and "separable two-character word group" categories according to the form standard. Separable word is the separable two-character word group in essence.Temporary two-character word group and fixed two-character word group have no clear boundaries between groups, partly because the internal structure of word groups constitutes a form of consistency; on the other hand, being subject to Chinese double syllable impact, originally a temporary combination of the words group has gradually become a fixed character set. Many separable two-character word groups are the product of gradual change from "temporary" to "fixed". But, its "meaning" and "form" development are not synchronized. When the sense is already a whole, the form is still not completely solidified together. This is one reason of the formation of the separable two-character word group. In Chinese, many single syllable and double syllables have same meanings, which on one hand meets the need of physical expression of rhythm and languages, on the other hand is also the necessary requirement of Chinese double syllable. The phenomenon of the same meaning between Chinese words and characters is a major feature of Chinese as well as an important way to produce the separable words.The formation of separable two-character word group also suffers from the role of analogy. The analogy includes two kinds, the integrated analogy and the structural analogy. Structural analogy analogizes non-verb-object structure into a verb-object structure, when the original non-verb word group was set forth as the separable word. This is another cause of separable two-character word group.
