A Comparative Of Chinese Characters In Korean And Chinese Words In Korean

The research object of this essay is the Chinese character words in Korean. In Standard National Language Thesaurus(State national language institute,2008 edition) and Chinese-Korean Dictionary (Jinming Publishing company,1998 edition), there are 2,830 Chinese character words out of the total number of 5,655Korean words. In primary level I, there are 160 Chinese character words out of 626 total words and 233 out of 675 in Levelâ…¡. And in Intermediate Level I, there are 661 Chinese character words out of 1,314total words and 432 out of 885 in the levelâ…¡. In High Level I and Level II, there are 619 Chinese character words out of 1,086 and 725 out of 1,069 respectively.Books about comparative research between Chinese and Korean have made great achievements and are published to the market continuously. This essay relies on the basis of former research with similar topic, combined with the theory of comparative linguistics and analyzed by both qualitative and quantitative ways. Meanwhile, with the reference of explanations in the Modern Chinese Dictionary (by the linguistic research department of Social science institute, Business Printing Company, the 5th edition) about the 2,830 Chinese character words appeared in Korean, this essay analyzes the synonym, homonym, and heterograph comparatively.A large amount of Chinese character words in Korean caused a benefit for both countries'learners, especially with the synonym. However on the other side, the homonym and heterograph some time become obstacles. It is a sincere hope that this essay could become a good reference for both Chinese and Korean language learners.
