Based on field surveys, this thesis puts the words of endearment which are used in conversation with children in Khorchin local dialect into four classes, and describes meanings, use and characteristics of those words by the research methods of descriptive linguistics. At the same time, the present author tries to briefly explain origins of some words, and makes comparisons between the words of endearment which are used in conversation with children in Khorchin local dialect and those in Chakhar and Ordos local dialects. The thesis is consist of Introduction, the main body (four chapters), Conclusions, Appendix, References and Acknowledgement.Introduction includes the contents such as proposition, overview of previous studies, the purpose and significances of the subject, research methods and research procedures.Chapter One puts the words of endearment which are used in conversation with children in Khorchin local dialect into four classes (nouns, adjectives, interjections and imitatives) according to the features of parts of speech. Meanwhile, the thesis introduces usage of the words.Chapter Two describes the structural, morphological and syntactic characteristics of the words of endearment which are used in conversation with children in Khorchin local dialect.Chapter Three is a brief introduction to the origins of the words of endearment which are used in conversation with children in Khorchin local dialect. In origin, the words can be classified into two parts:original Mongolian words and loanwords.Chapter Four is the brief comparisons between the words in Khorchin local dialect and some other local dialects like Chakhar and Ordos.Concluding section summarizes the core content of the thesis, explaining the basic point of view the full text.
