The 1990s witnesses the upsurge of the creative industry, which presented a powerful development trend. Music industry is included in the creative industry which is developing fast in recent years, with the development of new technology and network technology. Shanghai is one of the places where music industry developed earlier, and has the long history and unique music culture. At the beginning of the twentieth century, there is the earliest record "foreigner laugh out loudly" sold by French dealer and the first music company Pathe Orient set up in Shanghai, so Shanghai has the profound historical and cultural anecdotes of music industry and builds up the deep foundation of music development. Presently, the studying of music industry was focus on the industrial chain and music copyright. There is little research on the historic evolution and spatial distribution of music industry from geography perspective. The author of this article collected information from various angles attempting to research the historic evolution and spatial distribution of music industry in shanghai from the geography perspective.The analysis of this article suggests that music industry as the creative industry is becoming geographically concentrated, such as the music companies. At the same time, with the development of the network technology, many distribution and trade stores were disappeared and more spread out. The spatial distribution of shanghai music industry was influenced by urban culture, regional systems, technology innovation and market factors. The author would research shanghai music industry from the historic evolution angle, studying its spatial distribution and trying to offer the basic reference material for its further development and distribution, so as to perfect and enrich the general framework of music industry research.The full thesis is divided into four parts. The first part lays a theoretical foundation, including the first chapter Introduction. Mainly analysis the background of music industry and the direction of research, and summarized the research survey of domestic and international theories. The second part includes chapter2. The author analyzes the historic evolution of shanghai music industry from five phrases. The third part is the spatial distribution analysis based on the previous research, including chapter3, chapter4, and chapter5. Chapter3 analyzes the spatial distribution of music companies and trade stores in the upstream and downstream of music industrial chain. Finally draw the map of spatial distribution of shanghai music industry. Chapter4 discusses the music industry agglomeration in shanghai through the on-site investigation. Chapter5 basing on the front four chapters, predicts the general distribution trend of music industry. The fourth part is the conclusion. It summarizes the main viewpoints, and pointed out the weak points of the thesis and the questions that require further research.
