Aesthetic imagery is one of the key concepts in ancient Chinese theoretical system of aesthetics. Image Oil Painting is the typical Chinese painting language because it integrates with traditional Chinese Aesthetic characteristics.Nowadays it gains more and more attention and importance amid different cultures for its Chinese cultural characteristics.Image Oil Painting has both cultural & philosophical backgrounds while developing in China. It does not specifically mean a single style, but is a Chinese style of western oil painting. Image Oil Painting is a kind of conversion which uses western material to express Chinese cultural spirits, regional cultural characteristics & national aesthetic psychology.This essay has 4 chapters to illustrate author's idea. The first chapter introduces the main factors such as cultural & philosophical backgrounds that affects image oil painting, paving its way for theoretical backbones of image oil painting. The second chapter tells about the origin and development of image oil painting in China. It also briefly introduces oil painting in China and modern artists'interests in exploring image oil painting. At the same time, it tells briefly about the integration of Chinese image oil painting & western paintings.The third chapter is the key one in this essay.。It analyses modern oil painting's taste characteristic, formal characteristic & cultural meaning. The fourth chapter summarizes the value of image oil painting in today's world. At last, the author comes to the conclusion that modern image oil paitings' visal form is acturally artists'choice between history and the real world. This kind of phenomena roots in our social inclusion in modern society. Nowadays, in the process of arts, image oil painting is becoming more and more important and getting larger room to develop each day.
