The Relationship Between Church Schools' Literature Education & New-vernacular Literature

There have been a variety of speeches in New-vernacular Literature of China. But these researches have focused on the so-called one school and one journal (the National Peking University and the "New Youth" magazine) study, little attention has been paid on the Church Schools'literature education. In fact, it has played an important role in the history of the New-vernacular Literature. Scholars generally recognize the the impact of "Europeanization" to the new literature, but ignore the essence of "Europeanization" and the most direct source of "Europeanization"------Church Schools. This paper focuses on a church school called University of Shanghai which was set up on Late Qing Dynasty, and outline the school's literary education primarily through its magazine "Voice".From these factors of the Europeani zation,we can discover the relationship between Church Schools'Literature Education & New-vernacular Literature.Firstly this paper made a rough introduction of the University of Shanghai and its publication "Voice", then selected the publications between 1912 to 1936,when the publication had been Founded and the period of Japanese occupied Shanghai.Secondly, from the publication of material, we can dig out the influence of the "Europeanization" to the Chinese new literature and its performance, which is mainly reflected in three aspects:the influence of Europeanization to the Chinese language; to the style of the article in Chinese; and the concept of Chinese literature. According to looking up the "Voice",we can discover the channels of the "European" to the Chinese literature. These channels have included he following ways:First, literary education courses of University of Shanghai; Second, the lectures of University of Shanghai; third, literary societies of University of Shanghai; Fourth, literary contest of University of Shanghai. Finaly we adopted of two speeches on the new literature for comparison by Cheng duxiu.In comporision of these two speeches,we can find out how deep the Church Schools'literature education influenced the New-vernacular Literature.
