The Establishment of Modern Vernacular Literature------Regarding Hu Shi's Vernacular LiteraryAdvocacy as the CentureYuan Hong-taoAbstract: Hu Shi's vernacular literary advocacy was the reviewment of the modernity of modern literature. With literary activity and writing for the center, the thesis observes the increase to the course of the modern literary language. From the literary and languagic movement, the transition of the values and the advocate's subjective consciousness.The full text is divided into three sections . The first section has traced back the rise course of the movement of national language. The movement of national language became the mainstream of reforming the movement of the language .It regarded establishment a kind of modern common language with universality as goal. Deepening of the movement of national language, the position to the writing in classical Chinese was challenged gradually. The writings in the vernacular based on north dialect became the choice of the modern common language. At the same time ,in the region of literature, the prosperity of vernacular literary style promoted the writers ,language consciousness conscientious and the sense of the times creation was strengthened . From language style Hu Shi's advocacy of reforming literature made the modernish movement of common language combine with the effort to innovate literature and the both sides supported mutually. The transform of literary language not only made literature change deeply ,but also had shaken the values of the traditional language .New language system made modern vernacular literature really stand and give security for it.Hu Shi's advocacy of vernacular literature included the new value position inhere-tly. Following deep transition to the literary pattern, the consciousness of the language, the value orientation and the great adjustment of the literary system , the vernacularism became the course of the modern literary language. Because of this, Chinese literature realized its modern transition tentatively from whole and the modern literary idea had already been established.
