The Semantic Analyzation About The Color Word "Huang"

The color category is one of the basic categories in human's cognition,which caused many linquists' interest all over the world earlily,but there are few ones to discuss the simplex color word in details.AS a basic color word, "huang" is very important in the color system, this thesis analyze "huang" at two lays——ancient and modern, home and abroad, combining the predecessors' research highlight.Under the general idea, describe and review the historical and realistic situation of "yellow" roundly and systematically,also including the formation mechanism that "huang" develops from the meaning of color to the meaning of non-color,the semanic value of "huang" in the relevant semantic field, the comparison of color words between chinese and English in two aspects——the symbolic semanics and the semantic field of yellow system in order to exemplify the lingual nationality, at last conclude the extended frame of "huang".There are five parts.The first chapter forward the research objective, this thesis in based on the research of color words' study all over the word,and then discover the predecessors' deficiency, confirm the ideas and approaches of research.The second chapter is about the semanic field of "huang", by showing the diachronic status, I will analyze the formation mechanism."huang" develops from specialize the physicals to make a general reference of color, and then it can express different symbolic significance. This is the result of many facts inside and outside the language, for example, the pragmatic demand of renew leads the change of sememe, including increase,decreasea and replace, human's cognitive psychology and the history,culture,society and reality demands the semanics of "huang" have relevance of time and accord with the law of hunman thinking. The third chapter analyze the semanic field about the color meaning of "huang",including the ancient-modern,home-abroad parts. The develop of ancient-modern semanic field of yellow system is manifested by phonics,means about how to compose words,combined efficiency. The refinement of semantic cutting leads the appearance of orange-colored and brown-colored category, both of them are equal to the yellow category,but as a whole, yellow category is still the basic one. The systematicness of semanic field of yellow system increases in the mordern Chinese which can divide into two systems, one is conceptual system and the other is rhetorical system, each of them emphasized different aspects. Inside the system, the suitable range of words marked is more narrow than the ones without mark, accordingly the present frequency are different. There are some same aspects about the semenic cutting and reasons that how to compose words, but also there are some different ones. Both of them can be explained by human physiological mechanism,cognitive psychology,social-culture and lingual system.The fourth chapter discusses the semanic field of "huang"'s non-color semanics and compare the culture and customs of color words between Chinese and English. The different meaning of "huang"has distinct semanic value in the relative semanic field. The failure meaning "huang" which has metaphor and orality forms on the basis of degeneration meaning,also it can composite with some members in the field of people's relaiton."huang" specialize eroticism in the semanic field of corruption.Although this meaning is from abroad, but it has become indigenization by the effect of pragmatics.Because this meaning of "huang" express eroticism indirectly which is a taboo, so "huang" can be consider as a euphemism at this time. The meanings of failture and mature are comparative, both of them belong to the potential meaning, we need the context to confirm the exact meaning, so they are located at the edge of their own semanic field. The symbolic meanings of "huang" between Chinese and English have two kinds of relevance: one is similar, the other is different. There are four kinds of state, including corresponding basically,corresponding partly,corresponding contrarily and non-corresponding. At the same time, as to the same symbolic meaning, Chinese and English choose the different ones. The fifth charpter is about the construction of the extended semanics of "huang", including the extended network about different meangs of "huang" and spread netword about the semanic field of yellow system. The extended direction of "huang" in the ancient Chinese towards to the specific things, for example, practicality,animal,plant,people and orientation, but the direction in modern Chinese is contrary, most of the extended meanings are abstruct concept, for examlpe, condition,moral,status. The extended way about semanic field of yellow system likes this: firstly divides orange-colored and brown-colored category from the basic one, and then form different subcategories though various methods about how to compose words in each category in order to make the whole semanic field of yellow system systematically,strictly,renewally. After deduct the process about how does "huang" extend from the color range to the non-color range and analyze the range about the colored and non-colored meaning of "huang", which can test and carry out the relevant philological theory, at the same time, people can understand the synchronic and diachronic condition of "huang" well. I hope the idea of my thesis can work for the study of color words and offer the referenced proof of teaching Chinese as a second language in the applied aspect.
