The Research On Marcuse's Criticism Theory Of Technical Rationality

Technical rationality which is the result of the combination between traditional rationality and modern science is the main cultural spirit of modern western industrial civilization. The rational spirit of modern western philosophy and the scientific spirit of modern science promote the modern western societies'rational process. However, the progress of rationality and science can't promote man's happiness. Technical rationality's development makes man live in the technical alienation's world. Most of the modern western philosopher wants to transcend the modern western philosophers'thinking way whose main characteristic contains the separation between subject and object and the separation between material and spirit. They realize that the theory of knowledge which considers rationality as tool ignores the true significance of man's lives. They think that the relationship between subject and object or material and spirit can't be apart. They would like to recover the true significance and value of man's lives.The situation of man's lives is promoted because of the progress of rationality and science. As a result, a lot of material wealth is created. However, technical rationality becomes a kind of new power which can come true by the combination between technology and politics. Technical rationality changes from the strength which can be useful for man's lives to the strength which becomes the inhibition of man's lives. Marcuse's critical theory of technical rationality reveals that people who live in the modern developed industrial societies lack the critical and transcendental spirit are one-dimensional. The theory which researches on Marcuse's criticism theory of technical rationality reveals that technical rationality strengthens the skill of enslaving and controlling man. So we should appeal the return of value rationality in order to care about our lives'significance and value. Man's creation and independence reflects man's lives. If man wants to develop perfectly, he should have the spirit of criticism and creation. Man who may be satisfied with the material lives can't have real happiness in our modern society. It is important for our happiness to have healthy body and peaceful spirit. We can acquire the inspiration from Marcuse's criticism theory of technical rationality. We should try to realize the situation that we can get along well with each other and the relationship between man and nature are harmonic.
