The traditional Chinese auspicious patterns are an important constituent part of the traditional Chinese culture, one of the most direct manifestations of the auspicious culture, and the depositum of Chinese people's propitious concept and emotions in all ages. These patterns have been showing unique aesthetic values and artistic charms after thousands of years'sedimentary deposits. To study the traditional Chinese auspicious patterns is our inheritance to the marvelous cultural treasures from our ancestors, and is an effective way to let the whole world learn about China and Chinese culture as well. It is also of practical significance to inherit and promote our traditional culture.Gift package is a comparatively important category in the field of package designing. The application of auspicious patterns to gift package is a common way of designing. Because of its specific auspicious implications, the auspicious pattern has promoted the emotional value of the package of gifts and has given more'milk of human kindness'to the gifts. In recent years, a great many of scholars have been studying the auspicious patterns. They analyze the auspicious patterns as well as their concrete application to modern gift package, and presented their ingenious understanding. On the basis of referring to related data and quantity of documents and drawing on the experience of predecessors'research findings, the author of the thesis has put the auspicious patterns of different eras into order, and has gathered materials about gift package of different designing styles. The thesis has made an approach to the application of auspicious patterns to modern gift designing from the aspects of'shape','color'and'meaning'The thesis can be divided into five parts. Being the first part, the introduction mainly talks about the background information, the contents of study, the purpose of study and the significance of study. The second part discusses the origin and evolution of the traditional Chinese auspicious patterns. The third part tells us about the types of patterns and ways of representation of the traditional Chinese auspicious patterns. The fourth part analyzes the application of the traditional Chinese auspicious patterns to modern gift designing. The last part, which is the conclusion, expresses the author's opinions on applications of the traditional Chinese auspicious patterns to modern gift packaging, and takes a long view of it. By the study on the application of the traditional Chinese auspicious patterns to modern gift package, we can get an overview about the traditional Chinese auspicious patterns, and gains an intensive understanding about modern gift package. It leads us to feel the profound impact of the traditional culture and auspicious views. All these help us to regard the inheritance of auspicious patterns more objectively, and enable us to realize that modern gift package needs to inherit classification as well as to create something new and to surpass itself. All in all, gift packages with the traditional Chinese auspicious patterns are the invisible 'business card of China'. People show the traditional Chinese culture to the world while they are presenting gifts with the patterns, which enable the world to know China better.
