Between City And Village

In China, the farming culture and the its context of the gradual evolution of the ceremony is carrying traditional folk customs in the form of voice artistry. The platform which in the present customs of traditional musical culture hosts more common in the wider rural community. The question is, how the traditional nusic in the city exists and heritages?In this paper, Beijing, which is the focus in this paper, is selected because of its unique political, economic, and cultural role in China. The process of urbanization in Beijing is the most representative example.By studying, we can see the co-existence between the traditional music and cultures, we can analyze and make the conclusion that, even in the big city of modern Beijing, if the traditional culture has the root to maintain, there still has the chance to develop.From the standpoint of functionality view, this thesis will give the research of how music performs in different social levels. At first, in the main-stream society, music's purpose is mainly to satisfy people's appreciation, aesthetic and entertainment requirements, as a result, music changes more with people's aesthetic values. At this point of conclusion, traditional music skills will more affected by eastern culture and is in a not well sited situation. In the meanwhile, music performs more social functions and utility functions in non-mainstream society. In detail, music combines more closely with Chinese traditional culture, not only satisfy people's aesthetic values, but also is a must in culture flow. With this point, traditional music is more essential and more stable. By comparison, we can clearly make the point that the functionality of music plays an important role in preservation of music.By comparison, we can realize that the co-existence between traditional music and culture. In the meanwhile, we can conclude it is a must that customs plays an important role in maintaining music. The customs forms a platform will give our traditional music development, and this will be very difficult without the co-existence.
