Fear of Failure is a kind of negative emotion that people experience when they except they can't reach a certain achievement goal in activities.In1930s,Murray put forward the concept of Fear of Failure for the first time in his character trial. With the wealth of theoretical and empirical research, people's understanding of Fear of Failure is gradually in-depth.In 2001, Conroy put forward the Multi-Dimensional Evaluation Model of Fear of Failure. According to this modle, he developed the Performance Failure Appraisal Inventory(PFAI). The purposes of this study are:1. To amend Performance Failure Appraisal Inventory(PFAI) applying to college students in China, and provide an effective measuring tool.2. To survey the traits of Fear of Failure of Chinese college students.3. To know the relationship among Fear of Failure, Perfectionism and Procrastination. Students from three representative universities in Hebei province participated in the pre-test. 430 effective, after stratified cluster sampling. The formal test was conducted in four universities in Hebei province. There were 792 effective, after stratified cluster sampling. This study makes the following conclusions:1.The revised scale of Performance Failure Appraisal Inventory is made up of 21 items, which measure five dimensions, that is,The Fear of Shame and Embarrassment Scale, the Fear of Losing Social Influence Scale, the Fear of Upsetting Important Others Scale, the Fear of Having an Uncertain Future Scale, the Fear of Devaluing One's Self-estimate Scale, The indicators of reliability and validity of this scale are in line with the requirements of psychometrics.2.Generally speaking, College students'fear of failure level is under the average level, but there are still 27.5 percent of the students whose fear of failure level is hyper-average.3.Through comparing gender difference, it is showed that the scores (in the subscales of The Fear of Shame and Embarrassment, The Fear of Losing Social Influence, and The Fear of Upsetting Important Others)of male are higher than those of female. Comparing whether singleton or not difference, it is showed that the scores of The Fear of Losing Social Influence of singleton is much higher than those of non- singleton. Comparing grade difference, there are significant differences among higher grades and lower grades,it is showed that the scores(in the Performance Failure Appraisal Inventoryand its five subscales)of higher grades are much higher than those of lower grades.4.Comparing the differences of Perfectionism and Procrastination between the students with different fear of failure levels, it is showed that the scores in unadaptive prfectionism and its four factors of the students in the group with high fear of failure are significantly higher than those of low fear of failure group, and the scores in adaptive prfectionism of the students in the group with high fear of failure are significantly lower than those of low fear of failure group;the students in the group with high fear of failure have higher scores in Arousal Procrastination and Avoidant Procrastination.5.College students'perfectionism and fear of failure both have good predictive effects on procrastination, and fear of failure plays a mediation effect between perfectionism and procrastination.
