Lady's Influence On The Knight's Behavior And The Ideas In The Middle Ages Of Western European

The knight is the warrior in medieval society of Western Europe, their characters are warlike and martial. Early Knight gives us the barbaric and rude impression, but to the end 11th century and the early 12th century, the knight has great changes in the aspects of the courtliness, courage, morality, loyalty, etc. These changes are closely related to the lady. Therefore, I selected the medieval Western European lady's influence on the knight's behavior and the ideas as a topic. The previous articles are based mainly on the knight, and the lady is only a supporting role. They gave us the impression that the image of lady is monotonous and very dull. But the reality is far from this, the lady is very lively. The purpose of This paper is to put the lady as the main body and from the lady's point of view to explore the influences on the knights behavior, which are what this paper points at and the value of innovation.Lady's effect is focused on four aspects, containing etiquette, courage, loyalty and morality. The lady gave the knight direct or indirect profound influence through the childhood education, tournament, and courtly love and so on. In order to make him to be a good knight, the lady gave them the education of religion, courtliness, courtly love in the Knight's childhood. Tournament is an important entertainment, and the lady has certain constraints and norms to the Knights in the tournament. Courtly love is a wonderful flower in the Middle Ages, lady's love made changes to the knights'braveness, morality, loyalty and ritual actions. Knight grows to be a polite, generous, humble, noble, loyal and brave warrior under the influence of the lady.Social conditions of lady is lower at that time. In the Middle Ages ,the status of women in general is relatively low, but the reason why the lady can affect the behavior of knights was closely linked with the social conditions of that time. This paper will analysis and discuss this phenomenon from the prevailing economic conditions, political conditions, religious conditions, education, marital status, nobility , women's own efforts and so on.The significance is profound, which to some extent improved women's social status at that time. It also optimized the knight's code of conduct, and had an important impact for the formation of gentleman. At the same time the influence also indirectly contributed to the progress of the Middle Ages'social civilization, and had a profound impact to the later Europe's social graces.
