Orhan's Pendulum

Pendulum Symmetry is the relationship between opposition and unity in the equilibrium."Symmetry"is to place emphasis on the opposition,that is,both sides things have the heterogeneous contradiction;"pendulum"is to accentuate the unity,that is, both sides things having the heterogeneous contradiction have the tendency to transform into each other,and eventually revert to the balance of homogeneous.The philosophy of Pendulum Symmetry is the core proposition of O.Pamuk,which penetrates his novel art,and simultaneously reveals the configuration of his thoughts on the relationship between the Orient and the West.This dissertation consists of three chapters.The first chapter is to talk about the Pendulum Symmetry of pamuk's novel art.This cha- pter is based on the close-reading and cotain three aspects to understand author's art. First,the overall style pamuk insists on is the one that opposites itself.It doesn't only include the myst- erious and numerous style,but the distinct and ordered style.Second,the double-faced charac- ter is the contribution to literatural exhibitions by O.pamuk.Finally,his attitude to reality is to swing between historic narration and narrative history,and to take on the characteristic of his- toriographic metafiction.In this part,I consider the philosophy of Pendulum Symmetry as the central axis of pamuk's art.The second chapter is to elaborate the Pendulum Symmetry of pamuk's cultural view,in which contains three aspects to understand the cultural view of pamuk.First,I elaborate his thoughts on the so-called Cultural Crash,which is not only the crash between the Orient and the West,but the two different methods to modernize.Second,I call the'Huzun'into question,and then I think the Hunzun of the nation and the city is different from the one of pamuk's:the former is the imagination of collective,and the later is the imagination of individual. At last,pamuk's ideal of culture should be integrative, Imagined,and free.The third chapter is to discourse the Pendulum Symmetry of literature itself.I consider the basic contradiction as the root cause,and the characteristic of cogitation and literature itself,to a large extent,take some influence as well.
