| The trend of urban novels originating from the 1980s and flourishing in the 1990s is an important component of literature in the 1990s. After the contemporary literature's ambiguous urban narration, urban novels finally appeared, and also continued and activated the traditional and resources of urban novels of 20th century that was less abundant. When continuing the tradition, urban novels reflected an aesthetic quality of the new urban cultural context .During the sudden advent of the process of urbanization, China's cities are not only a kind of release but also a kind of siege. It ended the release of a powerful political ideology and waked up personal inner heart calling for life. At the same time, it inherited the inherent integration of top-down implementation strategy once again, which meant a new ideological threat for human beings. The urban narration of 1990's novels was set in this contradiction, whose orientation of value, way of feeling and linguistic forms conveyed the spirit of this period full of happiness and sorrows. The urban narrative of the novels in the 1990s reflected complicated cultural symptom in the process of urbanization when urban situations conveying the urban experience.The thesis paper is set in modern theory explaining the urban experience reflected in the urban narrative novels in the 1990's, and furthermore analyzing the text characteristics of the urban and its implicit cultural spirit. During the process of tangled and intense urbanization, the urban people first experience the urban life. The spiritual wandering either in the urban or in the countryside, the pain for the poor to make a living, the mania of middle class consuming, the fission of spirit in the market economy era, are real urban experiences driven by the process of urbanization. Trough the breakthrough point of urban novels written in four aspects, we will vibrate a variety of inner feelings hidden in the inner heart of urban people and focus on the personal situation of urbanization process, and as a means of contemplation of China's urban culture in the 1990s .The third part focuses on the narrative features of the text. From the narrator's identity, poetic narrative, irony and joking rhetorical strategies, narrative voice, etc. it explains the narrative stance of urban narrative in the 1990s, and analyzes the cultural spirit behind the narrative position. In the wavering between critical and identity, in the contradiction between sentimental and joking, the change from the Enlightenment to the cultural identity of populist stance when the main intellectuals sensitive to the quiver of the nerves of society was hidden in the numerous winding and kinking place of narrative positions.Compared to the urban novels of the 1930s and 1940s which focused on the moment of spirit in the urban people's rapid and complicated rhythm, the urban narrative novels of 1990s explored into the human's inner heart to reflect the complication of the process of urbanization, and dealt with the effect the urban process had on social life in all aspects, completed the complete rendering of people's spiritual experience during the process of urbanization. |
