"Chinese Seal" In Graphic Design

Seal Cutting Art is one of the most typically significant traditional Chinese arts. During centuries-old history, it deposits a specific cultural connotation and forms a system of regular visual language,at the same time, this type of art can be the visual portraiture and presentation of traditional culture. In the horizon of contemporary Graphic Design, traditional Seal Cutting Art not only acquires a specific artistic tendency, but also conveys the consistently traditional thought. The form and Design Aesthetic features presented by its line, color and stamp handicraft can be significantly influential for the composition and research of contemporary Graphic Design.This article takes the emblem of 29th Beijing Olympics—"Chinese Seal" as a breakthrough point and starts with the forms of traditional Seal Cutting Art and features of Design Aesthetics, to elaborate on the features of Seal Cutting Art which interlink to that of contemporary Graphic Design from the aspects of line, color, stamp handicraft and overall implication combined with some Graphic Design works. Then switcing from the similarity of appearance between traditional Seal Cutting Art and contemporary Graphic Design to the correspondence of inherent implication.From the aspect of Graphic Design, it digs out relevant factors which can be significant for Graphic Design from the forms of Seal Cutting Art and features of Design Aesthetics. Moreover, from following typical cases, this article conducts Initial carding about the applying relevant features into the art of contemporary Graphic Design which include Font Design, Layout Design, Logo Design, Packaging, Advertising, which can be echoed with former content.
