A Study Of The Aesthetics Of Chinese Literati Seal Cutting

This dissertation is mainly about Chinese Seal Cutting masters theories of Seal Cutting Aesthet ics and Image Beauty.The aim of this dissertation is to research what Literati Seal based on t he difference between practical and technical Seal Cutting,also is to research the development of the aesthetics features.Therefore,based on the Seal Cutting Masters’ exploration of the Japanese traditional aesthetics appreciation,I contacted numerous Japanese artists to carry out the research and states the independent art upon on the Literati Seal Aesthetics.At the beginning of this dissertation,it states of the Literati Seal’s established background an d Aesthetics orientation.The established background of Literati Seal related to: Jiancang Yin of Chinese traditional writin g and paintings,collections of seals development,literati seal development,literatis’ moral an d characters.The orientation of the Literati Seal: the seal image appears to reflect the aestheti c orientation of nature and landscape.Meanwhile,the spreading of seal cutting masters’ seal cutting aesthetics represents on the fol lowing aspects such as enjoyable theory of beauty appreciation,creation theory of aesthetic e mbodiment,character theory of aesthetic ambition.The enjoyable theory represents the spirit and artistry through the very small spaces,reacts th e enjoyable nature of Japanese art.The creation theory attaches importance to the ancient law of subjectivity of aesthetic thinking of the art creation along with changing times.The characte r theory of aesthetic ambition reflects the aesthetic character pursuit of these literati seals.It e specially develops many viewpoints upon on the association between the masters and the seal cutting arts.The aesthetic modeling of seal cuttings represents well in composition,Chinese character wrtin g and carving skills.The composition of seal cutting uses different ways to represents the aest hetic modeling of space,such as Zhubai,Hu Ying and Fangyuan.The popular shapes and ch anging strokes of Chinese characters becomes unity in opposition to each other.The interests of seal cutting represents the masters’ vitality and carving skills by using the gravers.From the above aesthetic seal cutting theory and modeling theory,the characters of aesthetics in this dissertation summarize as below.First,masters pay attention to image beauty: they imitate the earth natural principles and scenes.The masters not only perform multiple images in very small spaces but also performs spirit ual world of creation subjects.Secondly,masters pay attention to harmonious beauty: the opposite elements of nature forms t he completion of harmony and it shows the life and growth of life in the universe on the seal cuttings.Thirdly,masters pay attention to the nature beauty: seal cutting is a process of continuous car ve and polish and final aim is tow is made one.Forth,masters pay attention to moral beauty: the moral and literature reflect the moral beauty of seal cutting works.The image of its modeling represents the master’s capability in poetry,writing,painting and seal cutting.In summarize,literati is the main force of beauty appreciation in seal cutting.They bring forwar d the seal cutting theory while create the art works,so they can make sure the development of the seal cutting aesthetics.Based on this,masters are able to perform the skilled modeling with high philosophical thinking moral,thereby they will take the independent place in the art fi eld of East Asian seal cutting aesthetics.
