There are abundant examples of XieYin(hide one's feelings, thoughts as well as attitudes in humour and express them indirectly) in Chinese literature and culture which were summarized by Liu Xie in his book Wenxindiaolong. In the chapter Xieyin,it was explained as "tease without embarrassing", "well-timed and appropriate" which cultivated the spirit of writing and truth by xieyin. The generalization pointed a way for the development of the art of xieyin and encouraged writers to combine teaching with pleasure consciously. Xieduo, written by Shen Qifeng of Qing dynasty, is a collection of short stories in classical Chinese. Not only influenced by his time and society, but also by his own character, his belief in Confucian culture and his responsibility as an official,Shen promoted and developed the spirit of xieyin in Xieduo. The writer applied the art of xieyin wisely in various ways to satirize the society, to expostulate with people,to praise the moral principles and good characters and to deliberate on life as well.Xieduo is highly valued because not only its content and styles are supplementary to each other, but it's also elegantly written with vivid teaching examples. The book received tremendous success among readers and critics since its publication, therefore it deserves the attention of present researchers.
