Study Of Compound Location Words With "Yi/zhi" And Errors In TCFL

This paper discusses the specific characteristics and construction of compound location words containing "yi/zhi", undertakes a rather detailed analysis of the mistakes made by foreign students speaking mandarin, and then raises potential pedagogical countermeasures that correspond to those errors.This paper sorts out the system of location words in the modern Chinese language by discussing the types and usages of those words. It specifically analyzed 12 compound location words with "yi/zhi" from three linguistic aspects---semantic, syntax and style, paces out the relationship between concepts of Space and Time denoted by the location words, the different syntax function of those words as well as their frequency in different language environments.Based on the CCL data of Peking University and the ECNU international students' Chinese composition homework, our research concludes that there are four types of errors in the usage of these words and discusses the main reasons for these errors. The end of the paper proposes some teaching advice as correctional countermeasures.
