As one of the few morphological variations in Chinese, the reduplication of verb is always one of the difficulties for second language learners when they study Chinese.Especially when it comes to two-syllable verbs’ reduplication, two-syllable verbs’ reduplication have many kinds of types, complex meanings and limits in use. It is hard for teachers to teach and hard for students to learn.The full paper is divided into four chapters:Chapter 1 is an instruction, which gives a brief instruction on the reasons of writing this paper, related research at home and abroad, methods of the research, source of linguistic data, aims and meanings of the study. We also did a literature review in the field of Chinese grammar and Teaching Chinese as a second language which related former study on Chinese verbs’ reduplication.In chapter 2, on the basis of former studies on Chinese two-syllable verbs’ reduplication and second language study, we divide two-syllable verbs into three types—ABAB, AABB and ABB. This chapter focuses on analyzing three types of two-syllable verbs’ reduplication, the range of overlapped two-syllable verbs, grammatical meanings of overlapped two-syllable verbs and their semantic and syntactic functions separately.In chapter 3, based on errors and mistakes which are made by second language learners when they use two-syllable verbs’ reduplication(ABAB form, AABB form, and AAB form) from HSK dynamic composition corpus, we collect, reorganize and classify 52 examples which are related to two-syllable verbs’ reduplication. All the data are classified into three catalogs(AABB form, ABAB form and AAB form) and every catalog’s mistakes are analyzed in detail. Finally, the causes of all the mistakes will be discussed from two angles-----teachers’ teaching and students’ learning.In chapter 4, by analyzing from aspects of teaching Chinese, such as problems of teaching materials and problems of teacher’s teaching, some suggestions are put forwardwhich concentrate on the two aspects we mentions above, as to lower the rate of those mistakes. We hope this essay can be useful to the teaching of Chinese two-syllable verbs’ reduplication in the field of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language.
