The globalization makes the communication between different countries and nations become increasingly frequent. Cross-cultural communication is becoming much more important. However, due to diversified cultural elements involved, many cross-cultural communication turn out to be frustration or even a failure. Language is a fundamental means to guarantee the smoothness of cross-cultural communication. That means language must be acquired together with culture instruction in order to meet the needs of cross-culture communication.In recent years, there are so many researches on college culture teaching. However, the result of the advocated culture teaching is not satisfactory. Then how to teach culture knowledge in college English class? How to promote the college students' culture awareness and competence?The thesis provides a solution by employing schema theory. Since the language teaching cannot carry out without the culture teaching. The culture introduction plays an important part in the college English class. The author postulates a culture teaching and learning model—culture schema constructing model. The author is in favor of the constructive way of culture teaching and learning, which insists on students' centeredness to construct or adjust their culture schemata with peers'help and the teacher's instruction. They are direct acquisition approach of culture schema construction; Language containing approach of culture schema construction; indirect acquisition approach of culture schema construction. From detailed description of the researcher carried out her teaching, the positive effect appeared after the teaching practice. Students are more sensitive to various cultural phenomena and are keener on giving an analysis from a contrasting point of view. We are convinced that students'cultural awareness will be shown an observable improvement, for more culture schema are established.Culture introduction is a predictable trend in culture introduction of college English class. However, the actual carryout requires supports from many aspects including teachers, students, college administration and so on. The model presented in the thesis just provides a tentative suggestion to achieve a more effective way in culture introduction of the college English class.It is expected that the exploration may be helpful to college English teaching and learning.
