Among Chinese traditional folk artistic works, the Relief Art of Han Dynasty, mainly composed of relief stone and brick sculptures, is famous for its deeply culture connotations and unique artistic charm. Because of the special geographical and cultural factors, unique modeling means and characteristics of relief stones excavated in North of Shaanxi were taken tape gradually during the development. This branch passed on the art style of Han Dynasty. Meanwhile, it influenced the modeling of other kinds of folk art in this area afterward. Exactly because of its art characteristics and high value, collecting, arranging, protecting, studying and borrowing the modeling means of relief stone of Han Dynasty in northern Shaanxi are significant.The study object of this thesis is the modeling art of relief stones of Han Dynasty excavated in northern Shaanxi, consisting of Suide, Mizhi, Yulin, Shenmu Dabaodang and etc. The research methods are filed survey, literature review, archaeology of fine arts, Fine Arts and other cross-disciplinary methods. The point of penetration is modeling view of folk art, in order to look back on the typical art model of Han Dynasty. After that, it makes a careful comparing with both the relief stone modeling art of other areas in corresponding period and other northern Shaanxi folk arts, such as paper cutting and stone inscription, which have been passed on today, with the purpose of finding out the descending, mixing and variation of this branch. Then, this thesis does a further research on the prototype of visual aesthetic consciousness of Han people. Finally, it discusses the inspiration and values of this unique visual aesthetic appreciation making sense in modern design.
