A Research Of Quotation Of The First Four Of Twenty-four Histories Of Kang Xi Dictionary

Kangxi Dictionary is a profoundly influential dictionary of Chinese characters compiled by more than thirty reputed scholars of the Qing Dynasty, such as Zhang Yushu and Chen Tingjing, under the order of Emperor Kangxi who initiated compilation of the dictionary. The compilation of the dictionary is based on Zi hui and Zhengzitong, with a large number of characters. Each character has both pronunciation and meaning explanation; moreover every term of explanation takes references from previous study. Because of its complicated content, Kangxi Dictionary has generated great influences on latter dictionary compilingThis thesis aims to combine the relative knowledge lexicography, philology and exegetics to study the quotations of the first four of Twenty-four Histories. The scholars who did the investigations of the quotations are the Japanese Watanabeon and the Chinese Wang yinzhi. Watanabeon's study are more complicated while the Wang yinzhi's just do the study of the quotation which has some mistakes. Due to time limitation, this thesis directs at the first four of Twenty-four Histories to proof-read and correct. Firstly, this thesis has done thorough investigation of the first four parts,then correct the mistakes and classify it into ten categories, such as word missing, redundancy, inversion and wrong form of characters etc; secondly, the thesis analyzes the reasons of these mistakes and find out the different authors and the various editions are the main point; lastly it improves the previous studies the quotations. The thesis especially further analyzes the mistakes of the quotation, which is not fully done before, meanwhile improves the previous findings of the quotation study. Through the study, the aim is to make Kangxi Dictionary more complicated so that it has more value on usage.
