The Kangxi Dictionary, "led By" Guangyun "methods Of Sampling Survey

This paper investigated9223characters’ Fanqie which in Guangyun in Kangxi dictionary in the first place. And then, investigated the conditions of Kangxi dictionary quoting the misleading Fanqie in Guangyun. Finally, it examined two different versions of Guangyun’s Fanqie in Kangxi dictionary. Although it was not a complete investigation, also found many questions of Guangyun Fanqie in Kangxi Dictionary.About the conditions of9223characters’ Fanqies of Guangyun in Kangxi dictionary, one of the problem was that indicated the provenance of some Fanqies. And the other problems were miss aome Fanqies and miswritten some Fanqies.About the conditions of Kangxi dictionary quoting the misleading Fanqie in Guangyun, Kangxi dictionary didn’t handle these202characters’48Fanqies with an uniform standard. There were40characters’ Fanqie were identical with the Fanqie in Guangyun of Zecuntang, which were marked by" Guangyun" a total of32, did not indicate Guangyun from the total of8. There were99characters’ Fanqie were identical with the Fanqie which had be revised in Guangyun of Zecuntang, which marked" Guangyun" from the total of58, did not indicate Guangyun from the total of41. There were only one marked by" Guangyun", but it was identical with the same pronunciation’s Fanqie which had be revised in Guangyun. In addition there were15characters not had the same pronunciation’s Fanqie with Guangyun of Zecuntang in Kangxi dictionary.Another problem was the condition of diferent versions of Guangyun’s Fanqies in Kangxi dictionary.This paper found that Kangxi dictionary’s Guangyun Fanqie has two versions. One was from the Guangyun of Zecuntang, the other was from the Guangyun of Fushantang. There were222Fanqies in different. Among that,311characters’72Fanqies had diferent pronunciations, in which100characters’ Fanqies proceed from the Guangyun of Zecuntang and23characters’Fanqies proceed from the Guangyun of Fushantang.937characters’150Fanqies had same pronunciations, in which276characters’ Fanqies proceed from the Guangyun of Zecuntang and132characters’ Fanqies proceed from the Guangyun of Fushantang.Kangxi dictionary received a total of407034characters, this paper only examined the ten thousand more characters in Guangyun. This investigation was limited, but also found many problems. Therefore it can be concluded, Kangxi Dictionary quoted the Fanqies of Guangyun was not perfect. And through this discussion and research, we can also be for our future of compiling dictionaries and referencing books to avoid similar problems to provide some reference.
