Study On Soften And Reattachment Of The One-thousand-hand Buddha's Gilding At Dazu Grotto, Chongqing

Chongqing dazu Rock Carvings rooted in history of bashu culture, and development in the grotto art extended the possibility to a new realm on the basis of absorption and melt the essence of the early grotto art. With its high artistic and historical value, Chongqing dazu Rock Carvings was inscribed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO on December 1, 1999.one-thousand-hand Buddha lies in Baodingshan carved stone, Chongqing dazu Rock Carvings.It is the largest thousand-arm cliff statue carved on the rock of the recipice in our country. With it's high artistic appeal,it is the stone carving of the fine arts. Long-term exposure to the outsi -de air, suffering a variety of external climate, the gold foil on the surface of one-thousand-hand Buddha became cracked, warped, curly, peeling and discolored.In a word, its surface has been seriously damaged. So, post and repair it has become the focus of the artifacts protection field.Based on the research achievement of predecessors, this mainly research is soften, post and repair the gold foil. Main job is as follows:(1) Using FI-IR, XRD, XRF, SEM-EDS analytical methods to analyze the gild foil and gilding materials, and the results show that multilayer gold-covered of surface of One-thousand-hand Buddha adopts the traditional gilding craft, adding HgS in raw lacquer to set off gold color.(2) With the combined method of physical softening and Chemical softening, Namely, water vapor and alcohols reagents to soften the gold foil, good performance and satisfactory results were obtained. The softening mechanism is that water molecules permeate through adhesive layer, forming intramolecular hydrogen bond when positioned to hydroxyl in phenolic hydroxyl. Because of the good solubility between solvent, alcohol molecules can quickly permeate through gold fillet,so the formation of intramolecular hydrogen bond is much easier. Thus the aim of rapid softening is achieved.(3) Using mixed gel composed by YuPiaoJiao/sodium alginate to post case become warped, loss of gold foil layer.The results of the experiment show that When the ratio between YuPiaoJiao and sodium alginate is 7:3,the contents of the packing and PTA fangmeiji is 25% and 1% respectively,the viscosity of mixed gel binder is the best.This research on One-thousand-hand Buddha gold-covered surface curly gold effectively repair in accordance with the principle of the protection of cultural relics,It finally solve softening of One-thousand-hand Buddha surface become warped, curly gold foil and provides a new basis for the protection of One-thousand-hand Buddha surface gold foil. At the same time, the research method of the softening of the lacquer paint from north to soft also has certain directive significance.
