The Study To The Five Soprano Aria Of Oratorio Messiah

Taking the five soprano arias of Handel's oratorio Messiah as the researching subject, the thesis analyzes the spiritual meaning, musical style, singing handling methods, the comparison of different singing versions as well as the singing style of the Baroque period, combining with the author's own understanding. The author hopes to grasp accurately the opera's spiritual meaning and musical style, so that people can interpret the arias well.This thesis consists of three chapters. Chapter one illustrates the composing background, the contents of the work, as well as the work's different versions. This chapter elaborates the unique religious background and musical style, so that can embody the work's artistic value, historical position and the spiritual meaning.Chapter two analyzes Messiah's music:From the analysis to the whole music of Baroque period, to the analysis to Messiah, then to the analysis of the five soprano arias, and at last to the singing style. The author dramatically analyzes this work, so that the singer can understand the contents and artistic style sufficiently.Chapter three analyses the singing techniques and the different singing versions of famous vocal artists. Through the analysis to the work, the author dramatizes the soprano aria and the songs, and gives some advices about how to sing the aria perfectly based on the storyline, introducing some famous video versions about the aria. Then the author analyzes the musical characters of every song and musical phrase, understanding the relationships between every music phrases. At last, the author discusses how to improve the singing techniques from improving the dynamics, color as well as the speed of the voice. From this, the author hopes that it can advance the vocal education, can help the learner to manage the music style very well, and so as to promote the artistic culture and singing level.
