| Samuel Barber was one of the most honored American composers. His works are representative of nearly every musical genre, but only cello and piano sonata in his entire works, which had already being a compulsory repertoire in world class cello competition. Although this piece is very famous in American and European, actually very little research about it. Most of them are regarding the composer's biography and compose style. This essay will be divided into 5 main sections to analyze this piece.Firstly, the life background and compose style of Samuel Barber will be discussed.Secondly, through translate foreign biography to understand compose background and two important musicians who affect Barber a lot. At last give a conclusion about compose style about this pieceThirdly, compare and contrast different recordings and then try to find the best way on performance. (Just piano part)Fourthly, analyze the musical form to understand more about this sonata; conclude own performance practice.Fifthly, based on foregoing 4 sections, discuss the cooperation between cello and piano.All the points of view are establishing in literature, and combine my own special ideas.
