The Sino-P~merica economic relation began from 200 years ago. It has made much progress and undergone a lot of frustration as well. In 1980抯, it developed rapidly, but the economic factor was far less important than the political relation. At the beginning of 1990抯, the Cold War ended. The mutual interest based on the need of resisting Soviet Union no longer existed. China and .~merica reconsider their national interest and the economic factor suddenly arises. The author holds that there are two characters in the economic contacts between the two countries. The trade and investment develop rapidly; the economic relation develops smoothly although there are impacts from unstable political relation. The reasons are that all the countries in the world understand that only those whose economic power is strong enough can hold their international status, and generally the economic relation becomes the main relation between any two countries under the influence of economic globalization. The rising of economic factor has both favorable and unfavorable influence. On one hand, the economic interest becomes the new strategic basis between the two countries and the stabilizer in the bilateral political relation. On the other hand, the economic relation may be used by ~merica to realize its strategic aim, and the economic conflicts may become a new serious problem between the two countries. In the new century, the economic factor will play a still more important role in the bilateral relation.
