It has been a long time for construction industry to be considered as technology backward fields for two reasons. One is its labor-intensive productive character, the other is its poor technology innovation. With China's entry into WIX) and facing the competition of multinational construction groups, now Chinese construction industry has ut7gent time to improve its international competitiveness and productivity. Under this circumstance, this thesis has done some research and aims to give some advice for construction industry to improve construction innovation. This thesis has two purposes: the first is the discussion about the source of the construction innovation and the mode of how to build up construction firm's technology capability. By analyzing the evolution of construction technology and the value chain of the construction industry, the author finds there is an obvious technology outsouiting character and holds the opinion that the poor innovation capability of construction firm is due to the disadvantage technology outsourcing modes which usually appear to be low-ranked and inconsistent and are damage to accumulate the acit knowledge Therefore, on the basis of above-mentioned, the thesis proposes the outsourcing mode of M&A for big construction companies and the cooperating outsourcing mode as a form of joint venture that should be deep-ranked and steady going for small and moderate construction companies. Furthermore, this thesis also points out that the power of market cannot realize the vertical integration in construction industry under present transitional economy environment without the interference of power of non-economy. The second is the discussion about construction innovation barriers. Unlike the conventional methods that analyze separate factors that keep industry away from innovation, the author applies the industrial ol7ganizational theory to analyze construction industry systemically and points out the barriers which holdback construction innovation. Finally, on the basis of the above-mentioned, the thesis proposes the relative policy and advice to overcome such construction technological innovation barriers.
