China is a big agricultural country, whose major population are farmers. Villages are both the foundation of the existence and development of the Chinese society and the focus of the Chinese society. The strengthening of agriculture is the important aspect of the structural adjustments of economy, but also the foundation of keeping the development of economy and the stability of society. The problem of agriculture affect the existence and the development of the whole country and its people. Thus, we must realize fully the importance of developing agriculture and put agriculture the first thing of developing economy from the very beginning. In consequence, making sure the continuous and stable development of agriculture based on the increasing of the quality of products and benefits. From the point of developing the Chinese agriculture and the countryside economy, this article gives a brief account of Mao Zedong's thought of cooperative transformation of agriculture and its instructive significance to the development of the agriculture in future. The author holds that the thought of cooperative transformation of agriculture of Marx and Engels and Lenin and Stalin are the thesretical source of Mao Zedong's cooperative transformation of agriculture. During the New Democratic revolution hi China, the cooperative movements hi the revolutionary bases have brought about the shape of Mao Zedong's thought of cooperative transformation. The development of social productivity, the elimination of the peasants' poverty and the ultimate prosperity of the whole nation are the essential contents. And the socialist reformation of agrialture is the great practice of the cooperative transformation of agriculture. However, owing to the separation of the theory from the practice, Mao Zedong's practice of cooperative transformation of agriculture didn't lead the Chinese peasants to a common prosperity. Instead, after the 3rd plenary session ofitthe llth Central Committee, the household contract system with remuneration linked to output has improved peasants' lives rapidly. In this article, the author holds that the household contract system with remuneration linked to output is the complement and development of the cooperative transformation of agriculture. Mao Zedong's thought of cooperative transformation of agricuture will still instruct the future development of the Chinese agriculture.
