Chinese Fireplace Culture, "Jocosity" Convention And The Transmission Of Folk Story Narrator Liu Depei's Stories

Liu Depei is a well-known folk story narrator and an outstanding story transmitter. Through diachronic and synchronic studies and the systematic method, based on fieldwork and documental research, this paper makes an in-depth approach to the living place of folk story narrator梂ufeng Tujia Autonomous County in the west of Hubei province and the profound influence of its peculiar culture of Chinese fireplace and "jocosity" convention on the narration of the story teller and the significant influence of the story teller's narration on the development of regional culture.The paper is composed of four main parts. Part 1 is the introduction, which introduces the present situation of the study of oral transmission, the basic knowledge of the study of folk story narrator Liu Depei and the approaching angle of the paper. Part 2 mainly discusses the function and role of Chinese fireplace culture in oral transmission of stories and its influence on the narration of Liu Depei's folk story. It mainly discussed from the following three aspects: I.Chinese fireplace culture exerts its leading influence on the oral transmission of stories. 2. As the cultural core of Tujia families, the nature of Chinese fireplace culture is a kind of family culture. 3. Chinese fireplace culture exerts an influence on the narrating context and narrating content of story teller Liu Depei. Part 3 partially discusses the influence of Wufeng's peculiar "jocosity" convention on the cultivation of Liu Depei and the transmitting and developing role of him to the tradition. This is further divided into three parts: 1. The characteristics of "jocosity" convention and its ethicalfeatures. 2. The impact of this convention on the transmission of Liu Depei's stories. 3. The narrating features and techniques of Liu's "jocosity" stories. Part 4 is the conclusion, which points out that the fireplace based family transmission culture and the social transmission culture represented by "jocosity" convention have great influences on narration of story teller from all perspectives, and that the edification of cultural traditions is necessary to the cultivation of story tellers, meanwhile, story tellers have also promoted the development of culture.
