The study of competitiveness as an economic theory was originated from the western countries in 1980s. It caters to the trend of systematization of the economic and the tide of digitalization of economic study. The theory was developed quickly and practiced widely thanks to the above characters. Tourism industry is a newly burgeoning industry in China. With the swift increase on tourism investment, regional competition was getting more and more dog-eat-dog. The issue of regional competitiveness analysis of tourism industry came to my mind under the above backdrop.The study is aiming at developing and summating the present theory system of this issue as well as the practicing method, hi additional, analyze six cities to find some practical problems and give some suggestions on enhancing their competitiveness. The study mainly involves the theory of competitiveness, regional economics, industrial economics and tourism principles, etc. The methods used in the study mainly include expert investigation, analytic hierarchy process, radar map method, and competitiveness imitation method.The thesis is divided into six chapters. Fist of all, the paper introduces the necessity and significance of this issue. In the following chapters, it defies the central conceptions, builds up an analyzing paradigm and an index system, and analyzes the tourism competitiveness of six cities of Shandong province. Among above contents, giving explicit definitions of the central conceptions, building up a competitiveness paradigm and an index system directed to tourism industry are initiative works. The data collected in the chapter of empirical test are also valuable for relevant studies. Based on above analysis, the study comes to the following conclusions. The performance of a regional tourism industry is finally decided by the competitive advantages while not the comparative advantages. The regional tourism industry is a layered and complex system. The competitiveness components can be classified into three groups, the external environmental components, the middle layered resources components and the core processing components.
