A Research On Modern Industry And Urban Development

Since modern times,the urban development of Chengdu has been deeply influenced by the development of modern industry. Before liberation,the modern industry of Chengdu got off to a late start with a slow speed of development and quite a weak foundation. Therefore,the process of early moderniation of the city has been hindered seriously. Since 1950s,with the overall start and rapid adiancement ofindustrialization,the urban development of Chengdu emerges on the horizon,and the level of modernization improves steadily. However,dup to the negative effects brought about by the practice of planned economy,the urbaniztion and industrialization of Chengdu deviate from each other seriously from 1960s to 1970s. Since China's reform and opening to the outside,the industrialization of Chengdu integrates with the urbanization of the city preliminarily with the practice of market economy,but due to the retriction of such element as the poor quality of industrialization,the usbanization ofchengdu still lags behind its industrialization.The history of the industrial and whan development of Chengdu fully proves that industrialization is the basic driving force for urbanization while urbanization has counteraciton on industrialization. Under the guidance of this study,the industrial and unban development of chengdu at the turn of the new century should not only closely rely on raiseing the quality of industrialization to promote urbanization,but also make great effort to quicken the process of urbanization in order to accelerate industrializationand thereby realize the iutuous interaction between the two.
