On The Rural Stratum Differentiation In China's Modernization

China is now at a stage evolving from an agricultural society into a modern industrialized society. During this process,the social stratums keep on differentiating,esp. in rural area. The solution of rural differentiation problems will influence China's modernization directly. Therefore,a study delving into the rural stratum differentiation is meaningful in both theory and practice.The rural social stratum differentiation:an emergent issue in China's modernization.The so-called rural social stratum differentiation refers to the transformation of peasants,who,in the modernization process,left the land and changed their traditional work into modern agricultural produce or jobs other than peasants',thus formed some new relatively stable stratums with different new benefits,different characteristics and demands.This sort of differentiation is the inevitable result of modernization. However,it has run counter to China's industrialization due to the combined effect of our historical tradition,the unique/particular background and strategy for our modernization,and the nature of Chinese society. Furthermore,although the differentiation has,on one hand,enhanced the modernization process,it has on the other hand,brought along lots of negative,or ill effects. This undoubtedly makes the differentiation much more complicated,hence sets China back in its modernization progress. Then ,How to identify and conduct the differentiation? That is becoming an emergent problem awaiting us to solve in our modernization.II Reasons and showing forms of rural social stratum differentiation.Chinese rural social stratums differentiation due to many reasons,which mainly include the following:i)Change of state policy. The popularization of household contract responsibility system with remuneration linked to output,together with the fact that peasants have become commodity producers and sellers,provide essential premise for the differentiation,the adjustment of industrial structure provides the peasants with new carrier and new living space,The change of professional structure leads to corresponding changes of peasants in value preference,thinking mode and forms of behavior. ii)The driving force of disparity in interest between urban area & rural area constitute the internal operating system of the differentiation. iii)The change in the peasants' traditional views lays on ideological foundation for the differentiation.At present stage,the rural social stratum differentiation in China is becoming more and more obvious,and can be classified into 8 stratums as follows:agricultural labors,peasant workers,employees,intellectual practitioners,merchants or manufacturers,individual labors,private enterprise runners,town enterprisers,and executives in charge or rural affairs.III Characteristics and trends in rural society stratum differentiation.Till now the rural society differentiation in our county/China is developing at an elementary level. It remains immature and unstable,and is characterized as incomplete,boundary-not-set,unbalanced,spontaneous and blind.It is estimated that the differentiation will keep on developing in a larger scale in the middle period of this century,with agricultural labor force moving about internally and extraward,and gradually forming a non-agriculture stratum. Generally speaking,within a comparatively long period of time,Chinese peasants will increase in number,but decrease in percentage,and the overall educational level of the peasants will turn out to be better.IV. Strategies in conducting and accelerating the differentiation of social stratum in rural areaThe rural social stratum differentiation,rises up to meet the demand of Chinese modern construction,and it is also an emergent issue that modernization encounters. Though,the differentiation enhances the modern construction but it brings along,at the same time,much negative influence on modernization,too so,some positive and effective measures should be taken to guide and accelerate the differentiation,making it serve the socialis...
