The Measurement And Analysis Of Industrial Productivity In Chongqing

Development is the main topic of the globe, and economic growth is the prerequisite of the development. The analysis of productivity driven by solow's equilibrium of growth accounting make the theories of economic growth develop to a new stage. Productivity measuring one industry or area's operation of economy is a synthetic target, which can reflect the level of technical progress, technical efficiency, scale efficiency. Using productivity to analyze economic growth and exploring the resource of growth can not only give significant instruction to the enterprise's development but also provide strong theory arms to government that can formulate the policy of macroeconomic long-term stability. Productivity analysis is the main instrument exploring the source of growth, and the important means to determine the growth quality. From the World War II, the focus of productivity research in the world changed from partial -factor productivity to total-factor productivity, and this is the beginning of modern productivity research. On the basis of reviewing the productivity research, this paper introduces the interrelated theory of productivity, including the definition of productivity, the parameter and non-parameter methods of measuring it, emphasizing on the stochastic frontier production function, and decomposing productivity to technical progress (TP) and technical efficiency (TE). Then, analyzing the present situation of industrial development in Chongqing, and choosing the ownership structure, human resource quality, and the degree of opening as the factors influencing the TE, the frontier production function and TE are estimated by using the B&Câ…¡model and "Frontier"4.1 software, value of TE(1978-1999) is also gotten, and compared with the national level. Then, the productivity of Chongqing's industry is computed and its change in different stages eliminating the effect of economic cycles, and its tendency of change is obtained. The contributions made by capital,labor ,productivity to economy growth are measured, and the reason of high share of productivity is analyzed. The TE and TP are computed separately, and their contributions to productivity are also discussed. Finally, being aimed at some factors influencing the productivity level such as technical progress, ownership structure, the degree of opening, human resource quality, some corresponding proposals are presented to raise the productivity level.
